News: Finnish police hockey team steps in to nab suspect in assault

Members of the Finnish police hockey team competing in the World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver just couldn’t ignore an assault on a Coast Mountain bus driver and leapt in to help, which resulted in a man being arrested.

On a bus travelleing west down Hastings Street on Aug. 2, an altercation broke out between two men, one of whom assaulted the bus driver. Members of the hockey team were also on the bus and caught the suspect, holding him until local police arrived. The bus driver was shaken up and also suffered a cut to his nose.

David Leopold Ruschiensky, who is known to police, appears in court Aug. 11.
